built in 1768
This 250-year-old farmhouse was first built in 1768 by a member of the Dubois family. The Duboises settled this region while fleeing persecution in France. (You can learn more about the original settlers on historic Huguenot Street in New Paltz.)
When we stumbled on this historic home, we knew right away we wanted to make it ours. It might have been the beehive oven in the basement (filled with hundreds of happy crickets who have since found new residences). It might have been the previous owners’ taste in antiques that gave the place so much character. But mostly it was the ancient wooden floors and exposed wooden beams. We loved that it felt old, worn, and lived in. We could picture generations of families smiling and crying and making each other laugh within these walls.
Beyond just picturing this for our family, including our twin 5-year-old daughters, we pictured it for others as well. We believe people crave real experiences — the chance to break away from their hyper-connected lives (though as digital designers, we’re all about that too). But people need to get away sometimes and recharge. Forest bathing, some call it, and we think the name fits.
With 10+ acres and a place that breathes history, we offer this to you as your own way to get away. Whether you sit around the fire pit talking while stars twinkle overhead, lean out the Dutch door with a cup of tea to catch the morning light, or just cozy up in front of the fireplace for a game of Uno, this place forces you to pause. And breathe. And reset.
We look forward to your stay.
